The protected medieval wine cellar in the centre of Kneževi Vinogradi is open to visitors every day. The door of this fantastic edifice guards three levels of long halls, filled with barrels made of the finest Slavonian oak, plus an extensive wine archive.
Belje’s wine cellar in the centre of Kneževi Vinogradi is an example of a “gator”, a kind of wine cellar typical of Baranja, cast horizontally into a loess hill. With its first mention dating way back to 1526, the wine cellar is of enormous historical value for the entire region. This protected medieval locality is one of Baranja’s most important tourist destinations, open to visitors year-round. The guided tour of the cellar takes visitors through all three floors, filled with Slavonian oak barrels in which carefully selected Belje wines are maturing.
The archive featuring more than 20,000 representative bottles is a special attraction best showcasing the Vina Belje winemaking tradition. The archive's oldest wine is a 1949 Cabernet franc, displayed at the cellar’s central entrance.
